OZHARVEST_XMAS_TREEThis month, Hunter Development Corporation and OzHarvest Newcastle have partnered to help those in need by creating a food donation point in Honeysuckle for Christmas, as well as hosting a series of special events.

OzHarvest Newcastle is a not-for-profit, non-denominational charity that rescues excess food which would otherwise be discarded. This excess food is distributed to charities supporting the vulnerable in Newcastle, Lake Macquarie & Raymond Terrace.

OzHarvest rescues surplus food & delivers it to people in need. Since Feb 2010, teams largely made up of volunteers have collected food to provide the equivalent of 1 million meals. You might have seen their yellow vans driving around town.

The OzHarvest yellow collection bin will be located by the Christmas Tree, at The Maritime Centre. You can donate non-perishable food items for distribution to local charities until the 21st of December, between 10am and 3pm, from Tuesday to Sunday.

OZHARVEST_COOKBOOKOn Saturday 8th December, little ones and their parents will be able to join Santa under the Christmas tree for free photos and a cook book launch by OzHarvest Newcastle.

On sale in time for Christmas, The OzHarvest Cookbook uncovers our top chef’s secrets for using leftovers and is a who’s who of the Australian cooking scene including Maggie Beer, George Calombaris, Peter Gilmore, Bill Granger and Neil Perry.

Every $60 book purchased = 60 meals delivered to those in need. All proceeds from the book will go to OzHarvest to help redistribute excess food to over 380 charities across Australia. You can order the book online at www.ozharvest.org
